Miraculous Mordechai
(Shhh! Don’t tell Mo-Z, but his due date is today!)
Skye and Marci hang with Mo-Z in his Brooklyn apartment.
Mordechai Zachary Macrae was supposed to be born April 17th, but decided to show up seven weeks early. I finally got to meet my grandson out in Brooklyn and am completely smitten by the cutie we call Mo-Z, Mosey Mo, Baby Mo-Mo, Chaim … You may recall that Momma Skye’s in vitro pregnancy was fraught with all manner of traumatic complications. “It all started with no less than 77 self-administered injections (plus several weeks of shots from her partner) before they even got a positive pregnancy test. And there were daily shots ever since,” she wrote.
A TV screen becomes an improvised backdrop for Mommy and Mo-Z.
Same thing with Marci and Mo
Our daughter started bleeding at 24 weeks and was admitted to the hospital due to a placental abruption— her placenta was shearing away from her uterine lining. A few weeks later, she needed to be readmitted for the rest of the pregnancy because of “increasingly scary complications, including severe preeclampsia,” Skye explained.
Really, all we wanted to do was just hang out with the fellah… (photo by Marci Curtis)
And maybe take his picture “once or twice.”
Thankfully, all that trauma fades into the rearview mirror as we loved, snuggled and carried Mo-Z mo around with us all day.
Here are just a few snapshots of the newest member of our fun family.
Little does Mordechai know, but he has some strong Michigan roots.
He’s OUR National Champion already.
His daddy has a big hat to fill.
Look, up in the sky, it’s super hero Mordechai, defender of naps.
Being a super hero is hard worky work.
Super Mo-Z has two sidekicks, Mona and Aurora, who are constantly vigilant
(except when their automatic feeder goes off).
I can’t remember what the joke was,
but his delivery sure was funny. (photo by Marci Curtis)
Remember that earlier shot with the TV screen as the background? This up close and personal shot happened with my black coat draped over their cat-scratching post.
Up on his roof, down under The Brooklyn Bridge
Skye, Michael and Mordechai snuggle along the East River. In case you didn’t recognize the skyline, the passing boat tells you where you are.
A fun portrait on Pebble Beach
Oh, I guess it’s mandatory to take a snap of the iconic Empire State Building framed by the Manhattan Bridge. Fun Fact: Did you know the DUMBO neighborhood, where they live, got its name from the acronym
Down Under Manhattan Bridge Overpass.
And yes, when you spend all that time under the Brooklyn Bridge — apart from seeing Operation Mincemeat and all the EVs over at The New York Auto Show — you really should come back with a cool photo or two of it.

What a joyful story this turns out to be. Thank you all. I am warm inside and feel a new hope.
Hey thanks, brother. I love that word, hope. It hops out of your mouth and bounces at the end.
Such a beautiful miracle! Congrats to your family!
Thank you so much, Jennifer!
