There was such a remarkable outpouring of resistors all across America for the Hands Off! Rallies. Millions showed up in big and small towns around the country to protest the president and Elon Musk’s hostile takeover of American rights and freedoms.
Our friend Shamamta celebrated her 90th birthday over the weekend. She’s the matriarch of some good family friends and I was lucky enough to be invited along to hang out, eat some great food and snap some photos of her family and friends at the happy occasion.

I use both my countertop compost container and a bigger bucket to feed my compost pile out back.
“There’s food back here!”
At first I didn’t understand what she meant, but then I let loose a laugh when I heard my granddaughter’s young friend yelling to her mother, shocked and intrigued by my compost pile out back.
I was thrilled when my buddypal’s daughter, Brie, asked if I would shoot her fun outdoor wedding to Eric. I’ve been friends with the family for decades and it was such a joy to be part of their celebration. It took place at the couple’s old farmhouse in rural Ypsilanti. Here are just a few of my favorites from a June wedding in Ann Arbor’s cool cousin, Ypsi.
Brie peers through Eric’s ring, just like she did during the ceremony.

It was great seeing old friends and photographing new ones at a candidates forum in the park. One of my favorite ways to help contribute to the Blue Wave is by using my decades of experience in journalism to effect positive change. Here are some of my favorite snaps from the event.
U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens tells the enthusiastic crowd she’ll do everything she can to protect a woman’s right to choose.
If Hollywood location scouts were looking for a town from yesteryear that exuded pure Americana, all they’d need to do was take a quick trip to the middle of Troy, Michigan. If you were unconscious, then woke up in the middle of the Troy Historic Village, you’d swear you’d just time traveled a couple hundred years into the past.
I have been lucky enough to photograph several weddings at The Village. Here’s a smattering of my favorites.
Physicians Hazel and Matt celebrated their fully-vaccinated wedding and invited me along to take pictures. I had a blast covering it and truly enjoyed spending time with their family and friends.

It was their popcorn, it still haunts my dreams.
Yet another victim of progress and pandemic, The Main Art Theatre in Royal Oak, Michigan has closed for good … or bad.
This was a fun year, photographing weddings around Metro Detroit and Oakland County, Michigan. Here is just a small sampling of the couples I was lucky enough to spend time with. With decades of experience in news photography, I really enjoy shooting candid photos in a documentary photojournalism style. I worked for The Detroit Free Press, The Detroit News, AP — The Associated Press, and many other news organizations. Yes, I love shooting portraits too! Thank you to all “my” awesome brides and grooms.
